Sanatan Dharm: Exploring Early Science and Its Evolution

The majority of individuals in India adhere to Hinduism or Sanatan Dharm, while Christianity is predominantly practiced in Western countries, and Islam is the primary religion in Gulf countries.

From an early age, we are indoctrinated by our society to believe that our language and religion are superior to all others. As we mature, this belief becomes deeply ingrained within us, as if it were an inherent part of our very being, flowing through our veins alongside our hemoglobin particles.

It is rare to come across individuals who truly appreciate religions other than their own. Occasionally, I inquire of certain individuals, Imagine if you had been born into a different religion, wouldn’t you then be practicing and adhering to its beliefs and rituals, which you currently reject? I often observe people becoming speechless, unable to provide an answer. Perhaps in that moment, they gain a fresh perspective on their own lives.

In my article titled “What is religion”, I expressed that religion encompasses wisdom, which is not something we are born with, but rather something we acquire through learning.

I have also recommended to numerous individuals the idea of embracing a global perspective rather than adhering exclusively to one religion. By this, I mean encouraging the acquisition of knowledge from various religions to enhance personal wisdom and facilitate personal growth throughout life.

If I manage to persuade you that Religion is wisdom, it is possible for us to acquire this wisdom through learning, rather than blindly or superstitiously following it, just like we learn from Science or other books.

Here’s an example showcasing the advanced scientific knowledge possessed by our ancient ancestors. They imparted wisdom far beyond the discoveries made by modern scientists, yet their contributions went unnoticed due to the Western inability to comprehend their language. Let me provide you with a specific illustration:

The concept of the Universal Law of Energy is familiar to those who have studied science. According to this law, energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form to another.

Interestingly, this principle was shared in the ancient text of Mahabharata, which some educated individuals consider to be a mythological story. In this epic, Lord Krishna imparts this knowledge to Arjun –

दूसरा वस्त्र ग्रहण करता हैं;
वैसे ही,आत्मा न पैदा होती है न मरती ही,
यह सिर्फ एक शरीर छोड़कर,
दूसरा शरीर धारण करता है।

The first two lines of this text are actually in Sanskrit, which is considered the world’s first language. The third to seventh lines are a translation of those lines in Hindi, which I provided for the convenience of Hindi-speaking individuals. Now, I am going to translate the entire text into English to ensure that it can be understood by a wider audience worldwide.

Just as individuals discard their old garments and don new attire, likewise our soul is neither born nor perishes. It simply transitions from one aged physical form to another fresh corporeal vessel.

If you substitute the term Energy in the Universal Law of Energy with Soul in Sanatan Dharm, you will realize that both concepts convey the same essence.

Who was the first to discover the Universal Law of Energy? Was it the modern scientists from Western countries or the ancient people of Sanatan Dharm? I’m confident that you all have the answer now.

Our ancestors possessed great scientific knowledge and made discoveries that predated those of modern scientists. Unfortunately, their findings were not documented in science or history books, leading to a lack of awareness and understanding of our ancient scientific achievements.

I provided you with this example because I have observed individuals blindly adhering to Hinduism, following superstitious teachings from their religious leaders, rather than understanding its scientific aspects.

In contrast, the educated and followers of other religions consider the tales of Hindu deities to be mythological and show no interest in exploring their scientific aspects.

Finally, whether you find yourself on either side of the spectrum, I am confident that after perusing this article, you may begin to reconsider the misguided beliefs instilled in you during your upbringing, which hindered you from acquiring the knowledge you truly deserved.
