The deities of Sanatan Dharma remain an enigmatic puzzle for the world to decipher, don’t they ? Indeed understanding their significance remains one of the most enduring and complex question in the history of human evolution. In this article, I will embark on a fascinating journey to unveiling the mysteries of Hindu deities, their scientific meaning, relevance, shedding light on their profound symbolism and importance in our lives.
For millennia, our community has faced relentless persecution from diverse regions and religions, our temples have been ravaged, our people mocked, and deities disparaged – all because we dared to worship a multitude of gods, honoring them through sacred statues.
Till date, the world has struggled to comprehend the essence of Hindu deities, dismissing them as mere superstation.
Join me on a journey to unravel the essence of Hindu worship. What do we truly reverence ? Is it merely gods or something profound ?
To uncover the answer, I encourage you to visit temples and ponder the significance of each deity. When visiting temples, observe deities and think what they symbolize, the emotions they evoke and the distinct energy each embodies. As you explore various temples, pay attention to the diverse energies you experience.
As you contemplate, you may discover that Hindus worship manifestations of energy – energy that resonates within us and around us.
For instance, consider a Shiva temple, where the revered Shiv Ling represents the primal force of sexual energy. This symbolize the sacred union of Shiva and Parvati, embodying the harmony of masculine and feminine energies. This energy is fundamental to the creation and sustenance of life, as it fuels the cycle of birth and regeneration. In this context, the Shiv Ling transcends being merely a symbol- it is an embodiment of the divine, a manifestation of the ultimate reality. Thus, the answer the question ” Is it a God ? ‘ is indeed ‘yes’.
Similarly, when we visit a Krishna temple, we reverence the eternal love of Radha and Krishna. We worship love itself, a force that infuses life with meaning and purpose. Without love, existence would be barren and hollow. Thus, love is an essential aspect of the living world, and our answer to the question “Is it a good?’, is a resounding “yes”.
In a Laxmi temple, we worship the embodiment of food energy, a vital force that sustains all living beings. Without this energy, life would cease to exist. Therefore, we acknowledge Laxmi as a divine entity, and our answer again is “yes”.
At a Narayan temple, we we pay homage to the divine essence within every living being, symbolized by Narayan or Nar/ Nari (the living body). This reverence recognizes the sacredness of life life itself, without which the world would be devoid of existence. Our answer once more is “yes”, affirming the divine nature of this aspect of the ultimate reality.
Observe that in every temple, the deity is accompanied by an animal, bird or fish. This deliberate juxtaposition holds significant meaning. It highlights the intricate relationships within the natural world, where diverse species coexist and interdepend. The deity and its accompanying creature are not distinct entities, but complementary aspects of the universe’s delicate balance. This symbolism reminds us that we are not alone in this world, but part of a larger ecosystem, where every species plays a vital role in the grand symphony of existence. If we remove any species from the ecosystem, the very existence of other species is threatened. This profound truth reveals a beautiful realty : we are all interconnected and interdependent. In a sense, we are all gods to each other for survival and harmony.
This understanding inspire us to worships and reverence all forms of life together. Now, when you look at the temples, do you see the gods in a new light ?
Do you understand the wisdom behind Hindu worship, which recognizes the divine in every aspect of creation? The answer, I believe, is clear.
Observe the Peepal trees flourishing besides temples, generating oxygen around the clock. This deliberate act signifies our reverence for nature’s purifiers. We not only worship these trees but also cultivate them , contributing in environmental conservation. This contrast with the so-called educated groups, who have ravaged our soil, air, and water. Imagine if they had understood the wisdoms of our ancestors thousands of year ago! Perhaps our world would be more vibrant and thriving today. This reflection leads us back to the question: are these trees gods? Indeed, they are- revered for life their life-sustaining power and symbolic of our interconnectedness with nature.
In summary, our worship encompasses the entirety of the natural world: oceans, rivers, mountains, wind, rain, forests, sun and the diverse creators that inhibit our planet – from snakes to elephant, tigers to peacocks, and cows. We also reverence the celestial bodies – planets, moon, and earth. Can you imagine a world without these essential elements? No, because our existence is deeply is deeply intertwined with theirs. Thus, are they not divine to us ? Indeed, they are. We worship them because our very survival relies on their presence.
Unfortunately, this holistic reverence is often misinterpreted by the Western world and other religions as superstition, as they fail to grasp the symbolic significance of our statues and idols.
Well I am not refuting that other’s views are entirely incorrect, as even Hindus themselves may not fully grasp the scientific wisdom of their ancestors. This article aims to enlighten the world about the profound understanding of the divine that our ancestors possessed, and how it differs from the misconceptions of today’s generation.
Through this article, I hope to reveal that our temples symbolize a profound truth: we are gods to each other, and our existence relies on protecting every species. By recognizing this interconnectedness, we can ensure our survival on this planet.
By now, I’m confident that most of you have come to understand that true significance of our deities but for those who still struggle to accept statues as divine, I’d like to share a captivating tale.
In his childhood, Lord Krishna, like any other infant, accidently ate soil. His mother, like any concerned parent, asked him to open his mouth. And when he did, she witnessed a breathtaking miracle: the entire cosmos within his mouth. So, what did he consume? Soil. And what did his mother see? I’m sure you are smiling now. The point is, what are statues made of? Soil, or earthy materials, aren’t they? Am I wrong?
Now, I hope you can see that what’s present in the temple has the power to evoke feelings that people search for their entire lives.
Well, I’m not saying that God is only found in temples or statues; for me, every particle in this universe is the creation of God. The statue we create are made up of those particles, and if you are fortunate like Ma Yashoda, you might glimpse the entire creation within that statue. Or, if you are lucky, you might experience your deity like Ram Krishna Paramhans, who saw his deity (ma Kali) in his temple.
So, neither blindly believe anything nor deny without understanding; instead, remain open to learning about the Devine. Who knows, you might be the next to experience it?
