What is Soul? Exploring Its Deeper Meaning

What do you observe in the photograph? Did you notice the girl in the water as the initial point of focus, and then proceeded to analyze her actions? Afterward, you examined her surroundings and discovered several leaves, with one of them showcasing three flowers.

If that statement is indeed accurate, allow me to inform you that your perception was correct, however, there were additional elements that eluded your observation and comprehension. This tends to be a common issue among the majority of individuals. They tend to solely focus on what is presented and emphasized, disregarding the importance of understanding the concealed aspects lying beneath. Perhaps this is the crucial factor behind many of their unanswered inquiries.

Isn’t it amusing? Instead of discussing the soul and body as intended, I’m talking about various topics like girls, water, flowers, and presentations. I understand your curiosity about my perspective on the soul (what is soul) and whether there is a logical explanation for it.

If that statement is accurate, my friends, I request your attention towards the Water Droplet present on the leaf. I am confident that you have noticed the presence of this tiny water droplet on the leaf. By closely examining it, you will observe that it possesses its unique identity and individuality as long as it remains on that leaf. Similarly, the water within the pond also possesses its distinctive individuality and identity.

The water droplet and the water in the pond consist of the same H₂O molecules, indicating their shared origin. However, they differ in quantity: the water droplet exists in small amounts, while the pond contains a larger volume.

While each possesses its own distinct characteristics, it is important to note that the droplet is intrinsically linked to the pond. Its sense of individuality remains intact only as long as it resides on the leaf; upon falling into the pond, it assimilates with the entirety of the pond. Essentially, the leaf acts as a vessel, offering the water droplet a temporary opportunity to explore its own existence.

Indeed, we are all composed of body, mind, and soul. Many individuals have imparted this knowledge to us. The concepts of body and mind have been expounded in scientific literature, hence their familiarity to most of us. However, the explanation of the soul has often been met with skepticism or blind acceptance due to religious teachings.

However, I encourage you not to accept my words without questioning, but rather to comprehend using your own reasoning. In one of my articles titled Sanatan Dharm, the Early Science, I elucidated that the terms Soul and आत्मा are essentially synonymous, both referring to Energy, with the discrepancy being solely in language. If you haven’t read my article yet, I kindly suggest you do so.

After reading my article, I’m certain that you may be convinced, but there might still be unanswered questions lingering in your mind.

Honestly, it’s fascinating to note that all living beings on Earth consist of non-living components. In order to comprehend this concept, we need to delve into the fundamentals. Our composition is based on DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid = de + oxygen + ribo nucleic acid), indicating that we are comprised of countless molecules of oxygen, nucleic acids, and various other non-living substances. However, the precise arrangement of these elements was crucial in bringing forth life within us.

The body enables the soul to perceive and interact with its environment. The nature of the body determines the kind of experiences the soul will have. For example, when the soul inhabits a human body, it experiences things just like all of you do: the food you eat, the amount of sleep you get, and the process of reproduction. However, when the soul resides in a cow’s body, it experiences things as a cow does, such as eating grass. And when the soul occupies a mosquito’s body, it sustains itself by feeding on the blood of others.

The soul gains all the experiences of the body it inhabits. When the soul departs the body, it merges with the supreme/universal energy, similar to a water droplet falling into a pond and becoming one with the entire body of water.

Is everything clear now to some extent? I’m certain the answer is yes. In 2012, I authored an article titled आत्मज्ञान, which, for some reason, I didn’t share on my current website. However, I do want to share the concluding thought from that article: If my explanations haven’t convinced you yet, and if you believe thatआत्मज्ञान, the soul, or the supreme soul is something immense, then do you think you can understand it all overnight, or is understanding the smaller aspects the beginning of comprehending the whole?

At this juncture, my cherished companions, I have arrived at the juncture in this article where I will attempt to bring it to a close. Let us endeavor to transcend the realm of mere onlookers fixated solely on the girl, water, and flowers depicted in the photograph. Instead, let us aspire to be the exceptional individuals who discern even the most minuscule aspects, such as a water droplet, and marvel at the enchantment of life.
